After a long day of driving, I arrived in what I’d consider my worst camp site. It’s not horrible; I feel safe, and I’m spending the night in my cozy trailer anyway, but the campground is definitely a tin of sardines with all the trailers and RVs packed tightly together. To paraphrase a friend, to have the least appealing site be my last one, well, it’s because it’s time to be home.
I’d head off early tomorrow, but my neighbors tell me the city is replacing the sidewalk in front of my house and there’s no parking on the street before 4:00 pm, and frankly, I don’t know if the replacement sidewalk will be dry enough to maneuver my trailer into the driveway. Since my trip has been so full of unknowns, what’s one more? Instead, I’ll relax with a nice cup of coffee and a bit of breakfast, then pack up the trailer and take off around 9:00.
I’m settled in here just east of Phoenix. Coming across the desert from New Mexico into Texas, then back into New Mexico and into Arizona was a mostly flat uninspiring landscape. However, driving over the mountains into the Phoenix area was absolutely stunning. The colors, the rock formations, the huge Saguaro cacti, all of it beautiful.
Tomorrow will be my last blog entry to what has been a wonderful journey. I’ll bring this all to a close at that time. Right now, it’s beer time . . . oh, and I guess I should make myself some dinner. =:–)
